About The Artwork

It happened by chance. For ages long, I have thought what to draw. One day I found out an old ginkgo tree was cut down which used to be seen through the window. The tree reshaped its color according to seasonal changes, but was removed to build a new house on the spot. It disappeared for a flash. Disappearance of the tree, which existed in front of me from the first and was thought to be there now and forever, made me sorrow and feel emptiness. The tree in there for that time faded away as such. While looking at scenes outside the window I came to think of space and place I live in. Even my house I used to use for numerous times cannot be my own at last. Though I could set up pillars and lay bricks, I am not able to possess it forever. The place I live in is nothing but a temporary residence. Someday it will be a place of someone’s memory, and my memory and experience will vanish away to time and space. The relation between house and I is embodied in space and place where everything of mine is generated and created. I did not simply intend to draw space and place as a visible status. I attempted to consider parts and whole that are under change or to be changed in the future. A space that can be changed actually is also changed in my drawing. Change is experienced in my conscious and subconscious. I am confident that even subconscious may affect all parts of my life, even though it does not give me any quick awareness. All is not as it seems! I want to reflect subconscious into my works expressing implicit elements whether I thought or not by means of this theme as part of house. It is my sincere desire to settle my complex and confused mentality. Although there is a boundary in the drawing, it is no more than a temporary one as a background space. I may occupy space, but it is just a temporary occupation. Consequently space may be either for all people or for no one. Wall and stairs set in front of space represent a boundary, but they may dream to be new space in the future too. While space is initially structured with representational expression, it becomes dissolving and finally transforms to be abstractive as time goes by. Just as memory that is with time is getting fragmented, so is the relation between time and memory. Unoccupied space, place with effectiveness and scattered time etc., All of these play a pivotal role in our life. We are born, growing and living today, but our memory and experience disappear back to the past. Life is complex and abstractive though it seems simple on the face. Extinction and creation go together. Space, place and time are different, but same in that they are always creating something cooperatively.
