This is part of a series of organic, abstract, fictional, watercolor portraits.
The quote/title is from my favorite story titled, "The Heavenly Journey" from the book "The Legend of the Baal-Shem." In my imagination, this face very much represents the wall referred to in the story.
I paint watercolors to get away from defined reality, creating a new world that thrives on the imagination.
As the watercolor medium is very alive - moving, mixing, and reacting on its own - the act of painting is participatory and filled with the unexpected.
It is a zen exercise, limited not only by time, but by the experience of and concentration on the present - on the moment - something that has become extremely rare in the hyperreality (collage of time) we experience on a daily basis.
