The painting is at once a personal statement documenting my own frustrations at being trapped in the monotonous routine of the nine to five day job but also a broader commentary on how most of us as individuals are an integral part of capitlist society at large. I have chosed the them of the chain gang because it harks back to the vicious sentiments of racial enslavement which still hold resonance today albeit in differing guises.
