The concept of One Country Two System was created by Deng Xiaoping to allow Hong Kong maintaining its own autonomy after 1997 - the Handover of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty from British Colonial rule. Since then the term "One Country Two System" is to describe the political situation in Hong Kong. However, within our society we can also see two systems the ever increasingly divided between the rich and the poor. Nowhere is the more pronouncing than in the property market of this prosperous city. This painting is there to graphically reflect this disparity. In the background is a fireworks scene in the vibrant bright lighting harbor. In the foreground, sits the poor old man with his empty rice bowl. The striped plastic mat symbolizes the poor people's only affordable material for living. The lonely beggar contrasts with the prosperous cityscape. Humanity is contrasted with the reality of our society.
