Kelly is the model, here. She was sitting at dinner in a hotel restaurant when I spotted her. I made a pencil sketch, showed it to her and we made a date for a sitting and I painted this as a result.
This is a preliminary Acrylic color study on heavy paper stock/board for what will later be a full portrait. The study is approximately 11" x 8.5" and is dry-mounted on acid free board. The color study, is for me a must in about 80%-90% of my larger paintings on linen or cotton canvas.

I often under-paint using the accepted process of the Old Masters on my oil, tempera, acrylic paintings, in one or more of the following media, following in descending order of frequency: oil, acrylic, tempera, pastel, watercolor, or digital image transfers of my sketches, and/or photos of my models.
