‘Celestial Blue’
An experiment with the colour cerulean blue, one of my favourite colours. The name is probably derived from the latin caelulum, diminutive of caelum, "heaven, sky".
Subject
I have used the blue to represent the sky here. On its own however, it can look unreal so it has been calmed by the use of some grey in the top right suggesting an impending storm.
The figure could be a woman sitting on the steps of an ancient temple.
Technique
The complimentary colour of this blue is orange/pink which I have used in the figure. When you put the 2 next to each other the colours are at their richest and most powerful.
Composition
The diagonal line of of blue from top left to bottom right is balanced by the angle of the face, neck and towel.
