Oil painting on prepared wooden panel. Whole support treated with invisible primer prior to painting. This is a constituant part of a body of work that investigates our relationship with the screen and the distortions of reality, time and space that it can project. The wood serves as a foil to all that is imagined and created, as some representation of the natural truth. The wood is already reacting with time and chemicals - it looks like a seventies piece already - this definitely adds to its meaning. I'm a devoted fan of Dieter Roth and Fluxus , and art changing in meaning and substance. I have no idea what style category this falls into, it is between realism and surrealism, but I'm not a surrealist - I'm an investigator of contemporary existence so for this I am choosing Realism / World Culture. My current work furthers this theme by addressing the opposing forces of the nineteenth and twentieth century, of Victorian attitudes and Modernism, they are not post-modern or post-Victorian but a product of both, as well as perhaps, a reaction to Post-Modernism.
