There is a part of the Dorset Coast in Hardy's Wessex where throughout my life I have found real serenity. The light catches the water in a most exquisite way.

Deep Water, one of the Studland series of paintings, represents the play of light from perfect skies, which form so much of my memory of this place. I believe that 'deep water' is where the artist should dive.

Textured with industrial paints, and over painted in acrylic and oils. My treatment of the canvas, the underpainting and the loose stretching delivers a texture that is intended to reflect the movement in the water.
