This painting was created with acrylics and sand on canvas. Spirit Butterfly is part of a 30"x40" unstretched series that focused on ocean animals - and this butterfly. Perhaps it is similar to deep water luminescent bacteria and creatures. These paintings are primarily subconscious. I knew they would be sea creatures but let the initial stain forms dictate the direction of the art.
