This painting is predominantly referencing the 1920s-50s era of Hollywood photography, as seen in the NPG's 'Glamour of the Gods' exhibition. The figure is painted in oils while the background, feather, flowers and cap are all light-reflective pigments, which shine as they hit the light. The painting is also referencing classic portraiture such as Sir Joshua Reynolds 'Sara Siddons as the tragic muse.' The model is a contemporary person and the techniques combine traditional and modern mediums.
