Astraea was the last immortal to leave the earth, fleeing from man's wickedness; she watched, figuratively, while Rome burned, staying until the bitter end. She rose to heaven and became the constellation, Virgo. Also known as the maiden Justice, she gave her symbol, the scales, to the adjoining sign of Libra. It is said that she will return to earth when The Golden Age dawns.
Powdered pigment and solvents on aluminium.
Iliana Tosheva Astraea reminds me in a strange way of Vincent Fichard's 'Bloodflowers'. It's more than obvious that it all comes from your heart, Lia; disturbing and raw sometimes, but hard for the viewer to take their eyes off of your paintings!

Suhair Sibai You have a power of expression. You reach Deep within the soul and ask all the Poignant questions that we have difficulty answering.....Keep giving us those jewels Lia.

gaynor barton It reminds me of a bloodied middle-eastern flag because all the lines are horizontal and there's so much red seeping across the work. You must be picking up the zeitgeist Lia!
