All these years my abstractions started from earthern tones, to blue series and travelled through many colours. I have worked extensively with pastels and acrylics.
This particular series in brown seeped into my mind when i was analysing colours.
I felt brown colour was much ignored and I set out to explore the colour in all variartions and depth.
Brown refers to earth. Earth is closer to a mnas heart,, from the common man to the king.
As a young boy I was fascinated with the colour of soil and toiling in the fields by farmers. Later I took to sculpture and terracotta is dear to me, the colour BROWN again.
I was 26 years then.
Strong memories of my childhood and past reflect in my series. I have not visited my native for decades now, but it is an overpowering feeling when I think of my land.
The joy, agony, art and culture is deep rooted in my mind. Migration to city had its own impact on me.
Like an anxious farmer waiting for the rains to parch the dry soil, my canvas absorbs the colour brown, takes shapes and forms and fills the space with tones of the earth.
Like a farmer I mix water in brown pigments and now my canvas the field is ready for sowing and to germinate. Colours start appearing on my canvas like the delicate first leaves and blooming flowers of the plant.
While I sit in front of a blank canvas, it is my own prayer, a prayer to my land, my mother.
The final form or the complete works is all about my sensuality and love for my motherland.
My art just reflects my thoughts…
