American artist, William Hudson Temples, grew up drawing pictures and cartoons. His early inspirations were Maurice Sendak, Charles Schultz, and Shel Silverstein. In 1987, he began formal art training...
This painting was derived from a reference photo taken while exploring the neighborhood, La Boca, in Buenos Aires. La Boca is the old settlement located at the port. It has become a tourist destination, but beyond the vendors and photographers lies the real neighborhood. Here you’ll find colorful, clapboard structures nestled between once grand edifices. My companion repeatedly informed me that he had read the area was dangerous and that we should egress. Although I didn't perceive any threat beyond what is typical of the streets of Buenos Aires, I elected to placate my friend and retreat. As we left the area I snapped photos over walls and through archways. This painting evolved from one of those perspectives.
