Milada Mladova, New York, (1939) is a response to the fable of Arcachne from Ovid's Metamorphosis. The image is of a ballet dancer, resting or preparing for her next dance. Her face and legs are distorted and fractured beneath a divided and squared frame of a view finder. The distortion of her spider-like legs reflects the nature of her artistry, her ability to push her body beyond normal dimensions, weaving movement within time and space.
