Giving birth to a child is as a result of fertility and a great sacrifice of womanhood. The red background represents the pains and agony women pass through to give birth. The pot on the womans' head symbolises the load of mother hood and the pregnant fish is the symbol of fertility from the area I came from in Delta State Nigeria. The rendition in black ink is the influence of Ulie(Uli as called across the Niger) a traditional body art usually used in decorating human body during imprortant occasions among the Igbo speaking tribes of Nigeria.Materials used are pen and ink and acrylic wash on stretched canvas on board.
