Punishment Bands c1830s. Part of series of works made as an intervention in response to artefacts housed in the Christ's Hospital School Museum. The original offenders were made to embroider bands of linen with the crime they had committed, which they then had to wear. It is uncertain as to whether the bands were worn on the head or the arm. Using contemporary 'Housey' slang, new versions of the punishment bands have been added to the collection. Medium: Cross Stitch on Linen
