These three doors are arguably the most strikingly intense out of all of our work, and are perhaps the most significant.
Heavily influenced by Jean-Michel Basquiat’s crass and agitated narrative paintings, ‘Back-a-beyond’ is a tribute to the town in which both grew up. It highlights community struggle, unemployment and social ignorance in a colourfully playful manner. It reads as a plethora of detailed stories and comics, each representing a pocket of society, and opinion or encounter with a slick and gritty determination. A clear use of multiple artistic styles and influences demonstrates an intelligence and emotional depth that is rare in our less personal work.
