This drawing is a collaborative effort between my partner Matthew Boniwell and I, inspired by a statue of Nelson Mandela at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
The statue depicts Mandela from the waist up and is placed on a white plinth. It immediately made Matthew think of Davros, leader of the Dalek's in the BBC's Dr Who.
Mandela and Davros are so ideologically removed from one another that the idea of combining them was ludicrous - so we had to do it! And Mandela/Mandavros - so easy to say - it rolls so naturally off the tongue!
A collage would have been easy but we felt that the time and effort involved in a large scale drawing would lend gravitas to an otherwise very silly idea.
