In the series titled, "Fallen Angels and Demons" I yield to a fascination with horror, agony and despair. These are qualities that are also celebrated in the Romantic Art period and that I draw inspiration from and recapture in the suffering of everyday urban faces. I use a black marker to draw on paper, an active surface of crude, thick and thin lines. Images are created intuitively, as if emerging from a cloud and deliberately, as lines form to become abstract portraits of men and women, whose facial expressions vary from grotesque, to hauntingly strange, to frightened, to weary. Then lined next to one another, they form a picture quilt of individuals who seem to be from the outer edges of society and who convey the idea of flaw, defect and eccentric.
