Soviet Sherlock Holmes has became a canonical Sherlock Holmes caracter, created by Scottish writter Sir Arthur Conan Doyle .The role of Sherlock Holmes was played by Vasiliy Livanov (Russian Soviet actor ) in the late 1970s and in the 1980s. In 15 june 2006 Vasiliy Livanov was awarded with The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire,for one of the best on-screen images of Sherlock Holmes. In 2006 Livanov became a Honorary MBE (Member of the Order of British Empire) for service to the theatre and performing arts.In 2007, to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Arthur Conan Doyle's debut novel about Sherlock Holmes, the company is New Zealand Mint has released a series of four commemorative coins in two New Zealand dollars each, made from silver 999 in the amount of 8000 pieces. The reverse depicts Sherlock Holmes (played by Basiliy Livanov) in hunting and felt hat with a pipe.
