Art Description

I pair the preciousness of gold leaf with the plasticity of tonal rendering in this sparse version of The Last Judgment. What does it mean to fight a war on foreign soil? Both figures aim to uphold the flag. The gold figure leaves behind his camo uniform and takes on a pattern lifted from an Islamic relief. Gold-leaf, graphite and charcoal on hand-made paper.
