When I saw this marble head (eventually of Zeus), for the first time, the bearded heads of dead fighters from the Greek Resistance (world war II) came in my mind.
My next association was about the devastating massacre of the Greek civil war.
The year of my Exhibition in the Kulturhuset (1983), I had 10 years of living in the Swedish capital. As it is known, the years 1973 – 83 was a period of great political upheaval in Greece, coloured – among other things – by fiery political debates that became even stronger among the members of Stockholm's Greek Community, who had strong political believes. Nothing could bring the various fractions together while political resentment wedged all the time.

And while the Greek state officially recognized the 'Greek Resistance' and its fighters, left- and right-wingers accused eachother (the National Greek Democratic Association (ΕΔΕΣ) against the Greek People's Liberation Army (ΕΛΑΣ) respectively, as it still happens nowadays, even after half century from the end of the civil war.

The situation made me enormously sad, at the time and it still makes me sad nowadays. It shows lack of communal sense and inability for cooperation and constructive coexistence. A nation without elementary collective sense could never move forward.

The work was created especially for that exhibition and is dedicated, as an honor, to the Unknown Fighter, who sacrificed his life in the struggle for freedom.
I placed this marble head on a greatcoat that I kept from my military service and depicted it in a naturalistic manner.
