I pair the preciousness of gold leaf with the clarity of contour lines and shapes in this sparse version of The Last Judgment. Two brothers, both Marines– one left at the end of his tour, the other re-enlisted. I was thinking of the Marine Corps motto Semper Fidelis. What does it mean to have the kind of faith that leads to re-enlistment during a time of war?
