13 x 19 digital but also made with scanned graphite drawings.
I made this in response to all of the other more abstract experimental work.
I realized that the other stuff I was making was sort of alienating my "fans" or whatever and this work was sort of borne of the frustration that an artist feels.... a conflict between wanting to do personally significant though less commercially or allegorically pleasing work that will be accepted by viewers... and the desire to still make work that connects to viewers. I will just be honest about the conflict and the struggle.
So... it was a case of ":Oh okay, you are getting sick of seeing my obtuse abstract work ...okay well here's a pretty picture". Neverhteless, I could not let it stop at just a pretty for the sake of being pretty image and still managed to snarf it up to the version you see here. Small victory. It's got enough representational bits (look a face! Of a girl!) in it to please and establish a connection but is also about movement and emotion and ...whatever. This comment is so freaking long I would not bother to read it all either.
But thanks for checking it out. If you like this pic cause it's pretty and red, well hell yeah. That to me, is just as valid as any other reason. So sincerely, thanks for checking out any or all of my imagery.
