Bankers and a bear taunt a little boy who just lost his house while a skinny pig walks away from a losing battle with a wolf. Meanwhile a pie in the sky floats along yet no one has any reason to look up. This is the second work in my Occupie series. Using nostalgic elements and familiar illustrations, my work depicts the threads that bind us all. Situations that are familiar on a base level, our shared dreams, the simplicity of our consciousness (regardless of how interesting we all would like to appear.) Culled from the golden age of America when consumerism was graphically celebrated and the cost of the bucolic existence was hidden, the Bottom Feeders illustrates all of the problems with none of the sadness. Forgotten edifying illustrations are brought back to life to depict modern distorted realities. The wallpaper is the absence of art, the beautiful void we are meant to believe is life. The work is at first comforting and then, upon further reflection, disturbing--similar to every new day.
