About: Painting-Painting
Paintings-Paintings. They are works by Bernardo Montoya who think about the possibilities of painting conceived as expanded field, so what you see in them are paintings themselves, but pictorial signs. For example, some parts are kind of rocks made with paint made with recovered remains of a paint factory of furniture that the artist used as support during the production of this work.
These paintings can be seen as a kind of fossil composed of years of overlapping layers of paint, operated and located in space by the artist to enhance their status as painting, showing the process of building layer upon layer of paint, even with all its stains and residues, emphasizing the idea of the painting process. At the same time pointing to the act of painting, the idea of work and process are also question the possibility that their nature is spontaneous, which is outlined through the theatrical and scenic setting of the works.
These paintings, which are nothing more than the sum of pigment layers upon layers of pigment, escaped the traditional boundaries of the frame and the canvas to enter dialogue with the space surrounding them, are installed as the presence of a perennial event of an naked act before our eyes, no mysteries, lit. It is an invitation to see the rates these paintings as things in themselves and not merely as means to aim something external to them.
