ARTIST'S STATEMENT
''I grew up on the west coast of Cumbria and have always been impressed by the bleak beauty and remarkable light there. My father inspired me with a love of drawing when I was 3 or 4 years old and I have always regarded good draftsmanship as being central to my work.
My pictures are often inspired by a found image – such as an old family snap shot – these act as 'triggers' in the development of each work.
I find my inspiration from the work of very painterly masters such as Turner and Goya, as well as more contemporary 'photo inspired' artists like Luc Tuyman, Elizabeth Peyton and Peter Doig.''
