Alexis Robiou ( born 1974 in Vannes , France)
Alexis started to experiment with photography at the age of 14 in his own dark room located in his parents attic. At the same time , he co founded a musical indie pop xeroxed fanzine in brittany called Tea Time that quickly became legendary after ten collector editions , when he got kicked out of his own creation , the fanzine soon enough collapsed ... He quickly moved onto stencil graffiti .He held his first show in 1993 , aged 18 at the Merced arts center , California , USA .He then moved to London where he met his partner and collaborator Benedicte Andersen, where they both graduated from the Camberwell college of arts , London institute in 2000.In the mean time , he was part of several bands , electrocreme , the kick diggers and Monsieur Bricolage ,to name just a few ... They moved to Paris ,where they were awarded a workshop/ gallery as a grand prix de la création de la ville de Paris. This would be the first of their three artist run galleries . The second one , located in the heart of the marais district allowed them to directly sell their paintings to customers from all over the world ,traveling without moving , delivering their paintings themselves to their new owner´s homes with a bottle of champagne whenever possible .Producing in the morning and selling in the afternoon while the work was barely dry ...Their work is part of over 400 private collections .In march 2010 they moved to Copenhagen where they opened their third independent space : la galerie Francaise .His latest exhibition is his first solo show in Denmark in association with reknowned Gallery Poulsen , even though Alexis could be spotted Karaoké singing in the streets of Copenhagen during last summer´s distortion festival, hosting the Copenhagen fashion week or acting as a very improbable Copenhagen tour guide ...Alexis is also a born performer , musician and writer ...He just started a new interior design company : Family Jewels ...His work has been exhibited in New York , Tokyo, Paris , London , Munich , Barcelona , Dublin ...
Alexis was born a perfectly fit baby who was about to stop the wheel of karma ...
Obviously , no one knew about it back then , but somehow , in retrospective , it all started to make an awful lot of sense...
At the age of five , he started to fiddle with quantum mechanics , soon to move on to super string theory...when he turned eight , his uncle gave him a photographic dark room from which he would not emerge until he turned into a fully formed human being...
That is when the trouble started ...he got involved with street art and graffiti when nobody knew what it was about ...spraypainting his shoes , helmet and public walls while the police watched in amazement his hyper realistic renditions of modern day alienation. He somehow got involved with the parisian stencil graffiti scene ...but he could never be part of a gang that accepted him as a member ...so , he became a professional bowling player
instead (his opponents bitterly remember him rolling an almost perfect 296 ) before going back to his true love in 2009 :

Benedicte Toft Andersen (born 1971, Copenhagen, Denmark) and Alexis Robiou (born 1974, Vannes, France) first met in 1996 on the very first day of their fine arts foundation course in London and instantly started a collaboration that goes on to this day. Since then, they have produced hundreds of paintings, a fashion/ arts brand (Moto 777), been taking care of the art direction of many projects (Adidas, Ritz etc. see below) and opened three galleries exhibiting their own work (one of which were attributed by the Parisian mayor as a prize, Le grand prix de la Creation de la ville de Paris 2005).
Their artwork combines their mutual fondness for pop icons, rockn'roll, surrealism, the punk ethos of do it yourself and day to day political matters.
Silk screen printing is their weapon of choice along with collages, stencils and figurative paintings. The result is a striking yet poetic narative that confronts the viewer in a non linear philosophy.
