VECTORISM
Since as far back as 1982 Stefan has been exploring the possibilities of computer aided art and has made many installations (including one for The Photographers' Gallery, London) that have sometimes incorporated text or what he likes to call his 'ambient poetry'. The basic premise of this new work takes on board the illusions of M.C. Escher, the Surrealism of Dali and the dry conceptualism of Donald Judd, sprinkled with a touch of Art & Language. Stefan creates most of this work in Illustrator and then exports it into Photoshop for further development. Most of this work only needs to be printed to form part of a limited edition, other pieces are output onto canvas and then worked onto with paint, graphite powder and other materials. Looking at the painted versions it is difficult to discriminate between what has been "painted" in Photoshop and what has been painted with paint!
