Anne-Marie Giroux lives and work in Montreal. After graduating in Fine Arts from Concordia University (contemporary dance, visual arts, theatre studies and cinema), she has performed in the fields of contemporary dance, experimental film and art video from 1989 to 2001. In the heart or her artistic research as a multidisciplinary artist, the "body-matter" (le corps-matière), which she has apprehended as a sculptor to create a unique language based on the interaction between body, movement and material.
Grant holder from Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, National Film Board of Canada, Prim Centre d'Arts Médiatiques, she is known for having created multidisciplinary works involving film, video, sound, sculpture and dance. The first art video she co-directed, LE TOIT, was presented in Montreal as well as in France, Belgium and Spain with a Special Mention from the Jury at Festival Internacionale Cidade de Vigo (Spain), in 1993. Subsequently, she created and presented the multidisciplinary choreographic works PASSAGE (1995), MODULUS 5 (1997) and AUBE ET CRÉPUSCULE (2001).
Anne-Marie Giroux carries on her artistic career in visuals arts through painting, sculpture and drawing. In November 2010, following a trip in China (2008), where she spent some time in the city of Kaifeng, she presented her first solo exhibition in Montreal, entitled SERIES NO.1: ROUGE and SERIES NO.2: KAIFENG, CHINA.
Anne-Marie Giroux is presently working on two new series entitled SI UN ARBRE J'ÉTAIS (IF I WERE A TREE) and FORÊT MORTE (STILL FOREST).
