ÁLVARO TAMARIT (Álvaro López Tamarit, Jávea, Alicante 1976) is a Spanish artist, sculptor and designer who uses exclusively recovered materials, mostly wood. His work tries to transmit a message related to the protection of the planet and advised of the dangers of climate change.

Biography
Álvaro López Tamarit is a Spanish artist born on the 9th April 1976. In 1996, he began studying at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts (Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Carlos) in Valencia, Spain where he gained his degree with honours. From 2002 to 2003, he completed a course in the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cuenca with the Séneca Scholarship (Beca Séneca) and in 2003 received a Visual Arts Scholarship For Artistica Creation from the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community (Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana). During these years, Álvaro began to use his artistic name, Álvaro Tamarit and developed his signature which shows on all authentic pieces which Alvaro written backwards.
Linking his work as an artist with education, Álvaro began giving didactic workshops with the Social Work of the CAM Savings Bank whilst, at the same time, teaching courses in plastic arts at the Adult Education School in Benissa, Alicante.

Using meticulous methods of searching through objects and photographs, Álvaro found intrinsically the pieces that form part of his photo-collages. The recycling of images, worked through constructive processes such as boxing, assembly or gluing, all form part of the creative process for Álvaro Tamarit.


Solo Exhibitions

Álvaro Tamarit has, in recent years, had exhibits with a lot of recognition in the Spanish Press.
La Trastienda de Vinos y Viandas, a wine and tapas bar in his home town Javea, has a permanent exhibition of his work.[14]
His solo exhibition in 2009 Recycle the World (Palau de la Música, Valencia) was a resumé of the last ten years in his artistic career. [15]

In 2010, he participated in the exhibit 'Cartografías de la creatividad. 100% valencianos’. The international newspaper El Pais described Álvaro Tamarit's work as “symbolic constructions” (“construcciones simbólicas"”) [18].
The 2010 exhibit 'Puntas de Flecha. Nuevas trayectorias en el arte contemporáneo valenciano.' showed the works 'Bench of Thought I' and 'Tree House', Accompanied with the video 'Work In Progress'.[19][20]

Prizes & Awards

Since 1999, Álvaro Tamarit has receive various awards at a national level. In 2006, he received the prestigious Bancaja Prize for Sculpture in its 33rd year, with a piece that forms part of the Wood Decontruction (Deconstrucciones de Madera) series, in which the sculptor had be working for some years.

In 2008, he won the First Prize for Painting with a photo-collage in the Certamen de Pintura "Salvador Soria" Vila de Benissa, Alicante.[1][2][3]
