Annaclara Di Biase
born in 1977, Turin.
The research on the perception of the identity and the construction of the feminine image are themes of my artworks. I use the fashion mechanisms that are at the basis of the creation of the artificial female identity. I focus on the artifices which are necessary to create a mis-en-scne: clothes, fabrics, hairstyle, accessories, make-up. My main purpose is to analyze the way acts of camouflage become domestic practices that create, transform, dissemble and assemble again the female image. By doing that I explore the relation between female body, clothes, outer world, the real image and the artificial one, so that this mirrors play creates a world that goes beyond the appearance. I take inspiration from different fields such as movies, history of art, fairy tales, classical myths, theatre plays. Every time the protagonist of my series lives into different places and wears different clothes; performances are recorded by photos, and some of them are then painted.
