The artist can only express what s/he perceives. My works are mainly concerned with pure perception devoid of any concept. The concept is the idea which based on the thought process is necessarily conditioned and limited. Looking without a political agenda is necessary to transcend political, economic and religious divisions. After all we all share the same insecurities, fears and hopes where ever we live in the world. For all our western comfort and affluence we seem to have lost the value of culture and communal responsibilty. I've seen genuine heartfelt smiles in even the poorest villages in Asia. How many people do we see joyful in our cities? Not to be overly idealistic, the poverty and depravity cannot simply be romanticised or glossed over, but we in the west have a poverty of culture that even the poorest places in the world seem to be rich in.
