Born in 1977 on Earth, raised by monkeys till the age of four before coming to London to become a shaman's apprentice, Chris Swain is a painter and video artist currently living and breathing in London.
Drawing inspiration from the rich fabric of modern urban living, infusing it with the energy of jubliation and despair and informed by an appreciation of colour, Chris Swain would count Pollock, Banksy, Ofili, Basquiat, Kandinsky, Malcolm Morley, Max Beckman and the Chapman Brothers as influential to him. Music is also an inspiration to the creation of his paintings, as are the enthogenic explorations and shamanic rituals he undertakes. Chris Swain's varied themes and styles are an attempt to thwart categorization in order to resist expectation.
Schooled in London and holding a BA Hons in Public Art, Chris Swain has lived and worked in Amsterdam and in the Yucatan in Mexico as well as London and the spirit world and has worked extensively on commissions for private collectors. A video installation by Chris Swain can currently be seen in the Day Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. Chris has just had his short animated film Ellabellapumpanella screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 as well as many other film festivals around the world. Chris is currently working on an animated series and a number of commissioned paintings from private collectors.,…Read More
