b, 1938, Boston, Massachusetts, USAI usually work with mixed media including: oils, acrylics, oil pastels, prismacolors, charcoal, cement, and fabrics of various kinds. I am interested in texture and color especially. I work both abstractly and figuratively. Except for direct drawing as with charcoal, my work almost always incorporates fabric, In the figurative work, of a nude or a portrait for example, I am interested in the blemishes and wrinkles and lines that the underlying fabric creates, much like the blemishes that every body has that we all work with and often forget about.
In recent work I have created multi-layered pieces using cement on wood, covered with fabric, and rubbed with oil paint and oil pastels. Usually these are abstract but evocative of landscape or seascape.
I have also been drawing realistic landscapes and portraits in charcoal. In some cases I have printed images of the original drawings and then used a variety materials to create a new, abstract piece over the print that works with the realistic drawing in the print that may still be able to be seen.…Read More
