A buried box of memories trapped in an attic containing several photographs from the past. The gradient has faded leaving behind nothing but a cracked and torn surface - who were they?
Working with found photography, resin and paint, Tugce Karapinar's work focuses on the lost memories that existed through her ancestors. Trapping the found photographs into transparent objects allows the lost memories to surface and demonstrates how what was once lost has now been found.
‘Belonging to an ancestral tree yet not knowing where I am situated is what fuels the work. I am not only looking for the memories that were once created, I am also searching for my true identity within these’.
Each composition on its own represents one glimpse and only when we view them all together are we able to complete the puzzle in the self discovering of who we are.
