I have been a Semi-pro Artist (on and off) since the late 1980’s (when surname was Bowen) . After a break, I have decided to focus on my art again.
I have worked as a Community artist/tutor/Developer whilst still producing my own art work on and off. I have been lucky enough to travel widely in Europe and the Americas which has influenced my art notably in my landscape collages.I am also very interested in promoting the benefits and therapeutic nature of art including the benefits from herbs and being in Nature.
I am a Mother, wife and walk my dog daily. I also sing and enjoy Theatre and Films.
My work is mainly representational focusing on figure, portraits, landscape, wild life and still life. Preferred media ; drawing, pastel, oils, basic printmaking and collage. I rarely do abstract but do add symbolic elements to my work at times. Used to be known for fabric banner-making but don't do these now.
Mostly worked as a Community Artist Tutor and Developer and freelance artist for various Local Authorities, Schools, Community Centres, charities and Adult, Youth, & Family Education ,finding placements for volunteers, delivering workshops, classes and events. In 1990's I also became an Asst Art Tutor in a Michigan High School, USA for a term.
When young, I trained as a Counsellor for charity MIND and a Play Leader for Local Authority. I also worked as Senior clerk in a busy West End Theatre. As a student I travelled in Germany selling portraits as I went.
I have had several solo exhibitions as well as group ones including in Michigan, USA , Wales , Midlands and South West England. Various Commissions and sales means my works are in private and public collections in USA, UK & Germany. US Exhibitions held at Ann Arbor Art Gallery, Mi and Novi Centre.
Many gaps in art production due to having to find other work, having a Family, moving around due to husbands work and ill health. Now able to concentrate on art full-time again.
Recently part of Dorset Open Studios 2012 where visitors comments about my work, especially the Collages, included; "Lovely", "Amazing", "Therapeutic", "Wow", "refreshingly different", "Great colourist", "powerful".
Current member of A-n (Artists Network) , DAW (Dorset Artists) & AHSW (Arts & Health). Past member of many arts groups and Societies.
