Born in 1952, New York City Susan Bee is a painter, editor, and book artist, who lives and works in New York City.
My current series of oil paintings with collage, "Philosophical Trees," refers to the organic motifs of branches, trunks, and vine-like organic forms that structure the whole. These works have a relation to popular visual culture and a connection to surrealism in its dreamlike reveries and improbable logics and to certain folk-art and mystical traditions, such as the Kabbalah, with their "tree of life" diagrams.
Susan Bee has had solo shows at A.I.R. Gallery, Kenyon College, and Columbia University. She has been included in numerous group shows.Bee is the coeditor of M/E/A/N/I/N/G: An Anthology of Artists Writings, Theory, and Criticism. Granary Books has published six of her artist's books.
