Statement:
I use the term “Beauties” (even when expressing myself in Spanish) for the faces I paint, in the same way the fashion industry uses it when referring to close-up photography.
Taken from the fashion-industry pedestals, such as fashion magazines and advertisements, the faces are reduced to the maximum flatness of colour-fields.
Yet contradicting the above, these contemporary goddesses are not deprived of their complexity;
their optimism, faith or vanity combined with their personal grace are emphasised by the seemingly casual and bold traces of the dripped synthetic varnish on top of the flat acrylic surface, thus creating a literally layered image, not only adding life and character,
but also questioning the mere existence of chance and thereby beauty.

Female. Born 1976 in Breda, Holland.During the Erasmus exchange of the Fine Arts faculty in 's-Hertogenbosch and the Valencian one found myself more "at home" in Spain.Now I find myself living and painting in Barcelona.The center of my this attention in the human being. Its so fascinating,its physical appearances, its flesh, its weaknesses, its emotions and its social relations.Although it seems that nowadays a work has to speak literally for to communicate with the public, in my opinion art has always done this, during all his existence. Nobody remains indifferent before a series of portraits. I am deeply interested in the investigation on what happens to a person entering a room full of portraits. It enters a game of gazing and being gazed at, to observe and to be observed.And also it is interesting to me very much to explore the way, the process of painting. This challenge of exposing an idea or an emotion and simultaneously being very conscious of what the spectator is going to see is a painting, with all his secrets revealed long ago,and nevertheless to be capable of creating an interesting image with different angles how gaining access to the work.I think that it is not necessary to make a painting like the reality (for this we have the photography and his thousands of followers), but to play with this ancient concept and to cheat the public showing it with superflat colour-planes that this is no more than a mere canvas on a frame. … Read More
