Matthew Carter
About
Carter won the Glaister Ennor award in 2009 and has been a finalist in the Adam Portraiture Awards, National Portrait Gallery in Wellington 2009, the COCA Anthony Harper Awards 2010, the Wallace Arts Trust Awards 2010 and 2011, and the National Contemporary Art Award 2011.
Born in 1961 in Hull, England. Painter and Motion Graphic Designer, he has lived in London, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Auckland. He is a painter and designer having worked in the television industry as an editor and a motion graphics designer and animator.
His work is concerned with the ambivalence of urban spaces, perceived as both dangerous and lively. Carter's work investigates the place of the individual in the city with respect to the spatio-psychology of city spaces.
