I use my paintings as a way of revisiting and rethinking things that have stuck in my head; these stimuli are varied and could be anything I’ve seen or heard. The ‘artwork’ starts here; with this thinking process. This will often lead onto to the construction of models and still life that I then paint from.
I am most interested in making paintings that resist an instant understanding but remain accurate enough to make understanding seem possible; as the work comes from reality I want it to remain looking real. I use the trompe l’oeil techniques traditional to still life painting to ensure this. The work should look of this world but maintain otherworldliness.
