Artist statement
I have trained in many & varied fields of art including painting, printmaking, life drawing, photography, graphics, illustration & textiles. I have a BA Hons. Fine Art, Painting.
My latest work has seen an emergence from the lighter colours, where many pieces included white picture planes or grounds, to even simpler, loosely anatomical, semi-abstract forms to tie in with the human condition.
I've been working in greens, reds, greys, ochres & blues.
I see painting very much as an extension of drawing, and term it; “drawing with my brush” and drawing as the foundation for all art.
You may find abstract & semi abstract elements of the landscape in my work, such as boats, islands, thunderstorms, mountain scenes, hot summer days, moonlit nights, seascapes, memories & evocative scents from childhood.

I lecture in Life drawing & Oil painting for EAL, Ealing, West London. My work can be found in private collections in the UK & Norway.

Influences: Matisse, Diebenkorn, W.Scott, Munch, Francis Bowyer, Auerbach, Tapies, Heron, Hilton, Blow.

Work
Some of my recent paintings are a series called "Love Cycles" and consist of 20 odd pieces. They are more simplified than previous work. Painted on coloured grounds, they are derived from semi-abstract forms related to the human body, where you can find intriguing, natural forms of breasts, wombs & phalluses in earthy colours of reds, blues, greys, ochres & greens.
With this new work there's been a natural progression from my lighter coloured work into something that is a culmination of ideas that have been worked at for some time.
You will be able to see this work by visiting my studio or by visiting the next Wimbledon Art Studios exhibition in Nov-2012. I have more recently started some new work going back to using a white ground again. and my next project will be inspired by Munch my fellow countryman, and will be large nudes painted on 100 x 100 cm canvases. Looking forward to starting these very shortly.
