Gilles Le Corre, Born in Nantes, ( France) , on march, 1950 .
Soon after he was born, Gilles got away from his crazy family to become a sailor.
After discovering Chinese painting by chance on his voyages, he begins to paint seriously in the 1970s.
After many jobs he has lived by painting since 1987, with a studio first in Nantes, then Paris (from '86 to '90) and since then in Talmont Saint Hilaire, France.
He married Cat, his favourite model, in 1984, and to them a wonderful daughter was born in 1986.
They live surrounded by a lot of cats, birds, trees, the sky and the sea.
Since 2007, he has been designing fonts, first for his own use, and since the beginning of 2008, for sale online.
As of the first production in 70's, the author always works on paper. Chinese paper, waste paper, paper treated in various ways : varnished, gilt, now fited with flax oil. Then, for painting and drawing, all is usable : oil-colour, industrial polyvinyl medium and pigment, pencil, pastel, charcoal pencil, chalk, ink, watercolour and so on... most often used together.
On this present work, after oiling, the paper is ironed, then coloured with polyvinyl, the work is then executed with pencil, white "carre-Conte", pastel, bloodstone, charcoal, sometimes polyvinyl over again. From 2004, march, watercolour over the back ground again.Usual size : 75 X 110 cm, on light and smooth paper (120 to 130 g.) No title, only serial number, no signature.…Read More
A few precisions about the present work , usually described as "images of nudity".
1— image = metaphor to make ideas more brightness, giving the object a more notable shape.
The word image, both in french and english, remind the lack of a real subject ( Magritte : "ceci n'est pas une pipe" ie : "this is not a smoking pipe" ). Importance to don't forget that this is an evocation, not an effective presence, to not confuse the true object and its picture. I think it is not indifferent to distinguish a nude woman from a picture of a nude woman.
The problem, effectively, is not in the subject but really in the witness. He, he is really leaving, the only and lonely one in the confrontation. He can do what he want with the picture saught, but not the reverse. Without a spectator, a picture, as a mirror reflecting the emptiness, has absolutly no existence.
2— Nudity = clarity, simplicity, lack of duplicity, no disguise.
By extension : loyalty, frankness, sincerity, trusting, abandon ( so: lack of fear)
I may also add : ignorance of "sin", innocence, purity, sanctity, so I say : "Nudity as a metaphor for sanctity", that could be the motto of this present work, speaking here of a sanctity not referenced to a particular faith.
Like absolute frankness, sanctity, under all skies, is a big disturbance.
To sum up : Nudity as revealing the insolent truth of being, opposed to comfortable agreements of semblance. …Read More
