G W (Jerry) Palmer is an emerging digital artist now residing and creating in Phoenix, Arizona. He has found his artistic muse after many years of practicing national and international law and has naturally gravitated to abstract expression, linking his new visual art passion to his life-long devotion to music, the most abstract of all art forms. He describes his processes:
“Digital technology is the new, exploding art medium -- the successor to paint and brushes, chalk and charcoal and all other art media – for creation of cutting edge contemporary art. I begin with digital photographs. Clouds in motion, sunrises and sunsets, plants, designs in fabrics, are my first brush strokes. On occasion, I start with images that capture light in motion through “camera painting” -- moving the camera or zooming the lens, or both, while the shutter is open. Then I use various computer editing programs to deconstruct the elements recorded by the camera. I may take segments from several photos and arrange them in a collage for further processing. I may take color, line, shape and texture from a single, particularly interesting photo.
“My imaginative subconscious reconstructs my new raw material into abstract expressions that feature high color value together with lines, shapes and textures that combine to suggest dynamics in space and time.
“It remains amazing to me that such a creative blessing could be given to me in retirement and it keeps me alive and excited about each day to see what will emerge.”
