My work has become increasingly abstract as I have been intrigued by the power of color, line, and space to tug and convey in infinitely compelling ways. I am particularly interested in how strong emotion and experience may be depicted in colorful, abstract ways and, in the end, convey a lot, with a little. With their intense, saturated colors and undulating shapes, my oil paintings play on the notion that our brains “light up” with color when stimulated by experience and emotion, hence titles such as ”Know Love,” “Know Laughter,” "Know Beauty," etc. My goal in these pieces is to convey a simplicity of essence that nonetheless provokes stirring reactions, causing viewers to look, then look again.
I was born in the United States and was raised in the artsy college town of Ann Arbor, Michigan. My parents believed in the benefits of early unstructured play and artistic expression, and filled our shelves with an endless array of art supplies. For as long as I can remember, I was given the strong message to dream big and pursue whatever my vast imagination would allow.
I now work out of a loft studio with soaring ceilings and floor to ceiling windows in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, and travel frequently to New York, Chicago, and the west coast.
