My submission “All in my Head” uses the figurative element of the human head to explore a state of anxiety informed by my own experience of depression. I combined cast glass techniques with cement. I chose uranium glass because its iridescence conveys a sense of danger and contamination, which accurately describes the way that anxiety threatens my psyche, infiltrating every corner of my life. The cement represents the survival of the human spirit. This piece typifies a theme in my recent work of the individual in various states of constriction. In “All in my Head” I am isolated within the confines of my brain, unable to escape, abandoned by myself to navigate my way through. It is a journey which each individual can only make for him or herself: the journey of a lifetime from one side of the head to the other. I present “All in my Head” as a companion for that journey in solidarity for all those experiencing mental distress. This is one of a kind piece. Made with high quality New Zealand's Gaffer uranium glass. When it is illuminated with UV light, it glows in the dark.
