Contemporary society is defined by a complex relationship with personal and cultural identity and African American artists are wielding their creative voices to authentically narrate their realities. Cutting through one-dimensional representations and stereotypes perpetuated by mainstream media, Black artists are documenting, conceptualizing, and recontextualizing their communities, bodies, and histories to honor their experiences.
