Suyeon Na mines the imagery from mythology, folklore and religious iconography which heavily influenced her childhood, and combines them with patterns and images in contemporary fashion and media. In her work, the crystalline collages made with fabric, paper and sequins are mingled with watercolor-painted, mythological figures, often females and animals. While surrounded by lavish colors and textures, these characters quietly deliver psychological narrative about the issues of social and cultural adaptation, gender, love and intimacy. Na’s work has been exhibited at many museums, galleries, and art fairs around the world. This mixed-media painting was created through a combination of watercolor painting and elaborate collages on wood panel. Swarovski rhinestones were used to express the sparkling sea. In this work, dandelions are symbols of resilience and fearlessness because of their characteristics which they go as they please and bloom wherever they are settled.
