This couple of small objects comes from our past: from mine, the candlestick and the teapot, from that of Anna. In the time I was married with Sabina, we went several times to Catania, in Sicily, where his family come from. I met his paternal grandmother, an old madame quite temperamental, who prepare me a dish of “pasta ncasciata”, with eggplant, tomato, basil, ham, hard-boiled eggs and cheese, that I will never forget. I met also the Sabina’s uncle, the young friend of his father, a nice optical salesmen, who replenished my first reading glasses. The candlestick is creation of a young craftsman from Catania, which name is De Simone. I have seen that his laboratory has stood the test of time: in effect I’ve found the web page, with his handmade white clays, with a delicious Mediterranean flavour. The Anna’s teapot has instead a more near origin. She bought it in a nice household items shop of Girona, attracted from the fable-like image, with small hearts, small mushrooms of the wood, spiral sticks and small birds that rise to chirp from the window. Anna loves a lot all the birds. I ask to myself if, in the eventual use, the tea also would chirp, whit the birds, from the windows. In homage to Catania, the background of the two canvases is Etna, the steaming volcano rising above the town.
