Catch 22 is a piece from the Recycling collection. The style is mixed media on high quality canvas with aluminium frame. The fishes are made of the inner tubes of Dutch bicycles made of rubber. When I went to a bicycle shop because there was a little hole in my tire causing it to be flat , I noticed that the people working there rather throw away the whole inner tube then repairing it. It puts more money in their pocket. Very bad for the environment! When I felt the rubber in my hand it made me think of the skin of a fish. Smooth and flexible so it really inspired me. I was determined to use the rubber for a new recycling collection. The name Catch 22 is the idea that these free fishes escaped from the fishing nets but still are locked up in the frame. You can see the fragments of the net, made by textile, and the different layers of the blue water symbolises the depth of it.

Netherlands
I grew up in the Netherlands and graduated at the Academy of Arts ("Hogeschool der Kunsten") in Utrecht with a specialization in fashion and illustration. I then started as a freelance stylist in Amsterdam working for magazine publishers, television producers, a hotel chain and a model agency. Picking up on my painting ambition again I followed the School of Painting ("School voor Beeldende Kunsten Overijse) in Brussels. It was at this school that I started working with the technique of mixed media, a combination of acrylic paint and different kinds of materials which expresses and visualizes my inspiration. A lot of my work is an illustration of my travelling through many countries, during which I gained an endless source of inspiration and a challenge to put my creative ideas on canvas.
